Gerald Lai
Gerald Lai previously worked at large dispute resolution firms in Singapore. He was a former tribunal secretary to various residents of a set of arbitrators, assisting in over 20 arbitrations across energy, construction and engineering, mining and quarrying, forestry, technology, manufacturing, hospitality, and commodities sectors.

Gerald has been involved in arbitrations under the Singapore International Arbitration Centre (SIAC), Asian International Arbitration Centre (AIAC), Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre (HKIAC), International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), and London Court of International Arbitration (LCIA) Rules. He has also assisted tribunals or ad hoc annulment committees in three investor-State disputes under the ICSID Convention.

Acting as counsel for the issuer of a cryptocurrency token in an SIAC arbitration in a dispute arising out of a listing agreement with a cryptocurrency exchange.

Acting as counsel for a mechanical and engineering firm in an ICC arbitration relating to a subcontract for the construction of a heat recovery steam generator and power block piping works.

Acting as counsel in Singapore enforcement proceedings brought to enforce a Swiss arbitral award.

Appointed as Administrative Secretary in an ICC arbitration in a dispute relating to the supply of battery cells for usage in lithium-ion battery packs.

Appointed as a Tribunal Secretary in an SIAC arbitration in a dispute arising out of a teaming agreement in relation to an award of a subcontract for a government project for the implementation of technology.

Appointed as a Tribunal Secretary in an SIAC arbitration governed by Singapore law arising out of the performance of civil and structural consultancy works.

Appointed Assistant to the ad hoc Committee in ICSID annulment proceedings in respect of a US$216m award issued in an ICSID arbitration between Belgian and Luxembourgian investors and an East Asian country.

Appointed Assistant to the President of the Tribunal in an ICSID arbitration between Turkish investors and a Central Asian country.

Assisted the ad hoc Committee in ICSID annulment proceedings in a dispute involving the assessment of taxes, withholding of mining and financing approvals, and other actions of a Central Asian country.

Represented a recreational club in litigation with its member in three proceedings before the State Courts and the General Division of the High Court.

Represented a main contractor in litigation with its subcontractor for microtunneling works in respect of a project to construct a potable water pipeline in Singapore before the General Division of the High Court.

Assisted in an appeal before the Court of Appeal in a dispute involving the development of computer software for use in software asset management and computer systems for listing on the NASDAQ Exchange.

Assisted in a cross-appeal before the Court of Three Judges involving disciplinary proceedings taken by the Singapore Medical Council against a hand surgeon.
